In Memory of Our Classmates – Southwest High School Class of 1986

It has been an especially difficult week for the Southwest High School Class of 1986.

As we prepare to gather this August to celebrate our 40th Reunion, we have received the heartbreaking news that we have lost two of our classmates and friends, Mary Beth Baker Simmons and Keith Mathis.

Over the past 40 years, life has taken each of us on different journeys, but we have always shared a unique bond rooted in our time together at Southwest. The friendships, memories, and experiences we created as classmates have remained a connection that time and distance could never erase.

Today, we pause to remember Mary Beth and Keith, and to honor the lives they lived and the impact they had on those around them.

Mary Beth Baker Simmons will be remembered as a cherished member of our Class of 1986 family. We extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, and loved ones. May they find comfort in the many memories they shared and in knowing that Mary Beth will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Keith Mathis was a loyal friend, a proud Rebel, and someone who remained connected to the Southwest community throughout the years. Keith was a steadfast supporter of our reunions, deeply involved with the SHS Band family, and someone whose kindness, integrity, and genuine compassion touched so many lives. His presence made our class stronger, and his friendship will be remembered always.

As we come together this August, our reunion will be both a celebration and a time of remembrance. We will honor not only Mary Beth and Keith, but all of the classmates we have lost along the way. Though they will not be with us in person, their memories, laughter, friendships, and contributions to our lives remain an important part of who we are as a class.

Please keep the families of Mary Beth and Keith in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. We encourage everyone to share memories, stories, and photos as we celebrate the lives of two classmates who meant so much to so many.

Mary Beth and Keith, thank you for being part of our story. You will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always remain a part of the Southwest High School Class of 1986 family.
